Enveloping Schema
What is this schema?
Think about writing a letter and putting it in an envelope. It covers it up, hides what's inside. The enveloping schema is all about covering or wrapping things up. This is all partnof their spacial awareness and feeling safe. It explores boundaries too. This is both a fun and important schema and you can encourage it at home in lots of different ways.
When do they start exploring it?
This schema typically shows itself from around 18 months to 4 years old, where they begin imaginative play.it also quite often ties in with when they start to understand 'inside' and 'covering/hiding'.
Here's 5 activities to try at home:
• Use old wrapping paper for them to make their own presents.
• Wrap themselves and toys in blankets
• Play with scarves (real or sensory)
• Box play - encourage them to make dens with bigger boxes or use small boxes for hiding objects in.
• Hiding small objects or animals inside ice for them to try and get free

Please make sure your child is supervised at all times.
