Transporting Schema
What is this schema?
Children who are practising the transporting schema will have a fascination with moving objects from one place to another. You will find they love to find new ways to move objects (or themselves), from one box to another box, from room to room or even pouring from one container to a different one. This is a great schema to support physical development and it can be practised in every day activities. Something as simple as helping to unload the food shop from the bag to the cupboard or unloading the washing. Setting up small play scenarios and introducing tools such as tweezers can help older toddlers develop their fine motor skills.

When do they start to explore it?
You will quite often see this from 12 months old, although it can be slightly earlier or later.
Here's 5 activities to try at home with your little one:
• Unload the shopping from bag to cupboard
• Use containers to pour water at bath time
• Empty the washing basket into the washing machine
• Use buckets or toy trucks to move sand around the garden
• Pick up empty wrappers and put them in the bin.
Please make sure your child is supervised at all times.
