Rotation Schema

What is this schema?

Have you ever caught your little one sitting quietly spinning or turning something around and around? Perhaps the wheels of a toy car? This is all part of the rotation schema where young children explore things that turn. This helps the understanding of movement, supporting their motor development and understanding of the world around them.

When do they start exploring it?

Babies can start going through this schema from as young as 6 months, whenever they start taking an interest in things that spin and rotate. As they move into the toddler stage, they perfect these skills, gaining better hand control.

Here's 5 activities to try at home:

• Roll a ball

• Make tracks using toy cars

• Get them to help out in the kitchen, using a child safe whisk

• Encourage them to log roll across the floor

• Explore wind up toys

Please make sure your child is supervised at all times.
